1988
*30 August 1988: Gerard Harte (29), Martin Harte (21) and Brian Mullin (26), all Catholic members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), were shot and killed by undercover British Army members, while approaching an abandoned lorry at Drumnakilly, near Carrickmore. The three IRA members were attempting to kill an off duty Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) soldier. However details of their plot had been uncovered by the security forces. The three men were ambushed and it is doubtful whether the SAS intended to arrest them. At least one AK47 weapon was fired by one of them before their death. Their death is commemorated in the song Ambush At Drumnakilly.
