The Lawrence and Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, located in Orange, California, is a part of Chapman University. The Dodge College comprises the School of Film and Television, the Conservatory of Motion Pictures, and the Institute for the Study of Media and the Public Interest.

Unique Features of the School

The facilities are open for student use 24/7, and there are many other programs supported by the school such as Location Filmmaking, a Filmmaker-in-Residence program, and Industry Insiders, in which filmmakers not only have a Q&A session with all of the students in the school, but have a more intimate dinner with about 15 people afterwards, which students are able to sign up for.

Admission is highly selective. This is especially true for M.F.A. applicants to the Directing program within the conservatory. Between 8 and 9.5% of Directing applicants were offered admittance the last two years.

Degrees Offered

* B.A., Film Studies, Public Relations and Advertising (PRA), Screenwriting
* B.F.A., Film Production, Television and Broadcast Journalism, Media Arts
* M.A., Film Studies
* M.F.A., Screenwriting, Film and Television Producing, Directing, Editing, Cinematography, Production Design and Sound Design. The M.F.A. program is a conservatory in which applicants apply for and are admitted to specific disciplines. There are only two or three true film conservatories, AFI being the other prominent one. Perhaps not surprisingly, the new M.F.A. program at Chapman was created by some of the founding members of AFI
* M.B.A./M.F.A., Combined degree in Film producing and Business, founded Fall 2008 together with the Chapman Law School

Marion Knott Studios

In the Fall of 2006, the film school moved its operations into Marion Knott Studios, a new convert|76000|sqft|m2|sing=on-building with state-of-the-art classrooms and production facilities which consists of:

* 2 sound stages (2200sq ft and 3900 sq ft)
* Cinematography/directing stage
* Television/broadcast journalism stage
* Foley stage designed by Warner Brothers
* Motion Capture stage
* Locker rooms, hair/makeup studio, green room
* 2 audition rooms
* Set design shop
* Equipment Storage Room (Known as the "Gold Room")
* 3 large classrooms; 3 seminar rooms
* Production design studio
* 2 24hr computer labs
* 3 mixing studios
* Datacine Spirit 4K machine
* 36 individual editing suites (video, sound, and voice recording)
* 500-seat Folino Family Theater with THX surround sound

Other additions to this are in planning. A large computer server is currently being set up to host all of the editing being done by students. Any student will theoretically be able to edit their film on one of the many editing suites in the computer lab, and then play it in the 500-seat Folino Theater.

Once the main facility is completed, plans call for a backlot which will include a New York and a Paris street for on-site "location" shooting.
