The station is located at the northern end of the Anderson Street level crossing, which provides access to the station.
The station consists of two
side platform s: Platform 1 (Flinders Street bound) has a large red brick building, while platform 2 (Werribee and Williamstown bound) has a smaller weatherboard building. A largeMetcard ticket machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 2. A disusedsignal box is located at the DOWN end of the station, whilst a number of disused sidings are located to the east of platform 2.History
Yarraville station opened on
November 20 1871 as "South Footscray". [ [http://www.vicsig.net/index.php?page=infrastructure&name=Yarraville VICSIG Infrastructure - Yarraville] ] It was opened to goods in 1883, the yard being extended in 1912 at the Melbourne end. The overpass at Somerville Road was opened in 1970 and the goods yard removed in 1991. Interlocked crossing gates remained at the Anderson Street level crossing until 1995, until fixed away from the road and replaced by boom gates. The signal box was closed in 1996, and in 1997 the pedestrian subway on the station side of Anderson Street was replaced by pedestrian gates.References
