Frankston is a railway station located on Young Street in Frankston, Victoria, Australia. It is the terminus of the suburban Frankston railway line, however diesel railcar services extend to the greater metropolitan area on the Stony Point line beyond. It is a Zone 2 railway station with an island platform.
Facilities
Located on Young Street, which also provides station access, the station has a large brick building which sits at the Stony Point end of the station, with an enclosed waiting area, a ticket office, toilets and a cafe. An underpass is sitauted at the Stony Point end of the station, which connects Young Street and the station to it's car park, Fletcher Road and Chisholm Institute TAFE. It is one of 13 metropolitan stations to have Metcard barrier gates installed.
History
Frankston station opened on August 1 1882. [ [http://www.vicsig.net/index.php?page=infrastructure&name=Frankston VICSIG Infrastructure - Frankston] ] The station features briefly in the 1959 Hollywood movie "On the Beach", however the old station building has since been replaced. It was upgraded to Premium Station status on November 9 1995.[cite journal]
