Paul David Watters

Paul David Watters

David Watters is a Canadian politician who ran for office in the 2004 Canadian election as a candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada. He is a self described Red Tory, which he frequently links to his very red hair.

He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1968 and has lived in Toronto since 1999 with his wife of seven years. Prior to coming to Toronto, he earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Brunswick, Saint John in 1993.

Waters worked for Xerox and ADP before becoming a Business Development Manager for Pivotal Business Solutions.

Long involved in politics, he worked for both the federal and provincial Conservative campaigns in New Brunswick. Since moving to Toronto, he has been an active supporter of the city's Conservative candidates. He has been an executive member of the Trinity-Spadina Federal Progressive Conservative riding association since 2000, holding the posts of VP membership and Treasurer. He was a board member of the Conservative Party of Canada's Trinity-Spadina riding association until 2006, when he did not stand for re-election to the board after moving out of the riding.

Watters won the nomination for Trinity–Spadina in a close-fought nomination on March 28, 2004. He ran in the 2004 election against Tony Ianno, the Liberal incumbent; Olivia Chow, the New Democratic Party candidate; Anna Costa, the Green candidate; Asif Hossain, the Progressive Canadian candidate; Nick Lin, the Marxist-Leninist candidate; Tristan Downe-Dowdoney, the Canadian Action Party candidate; and Daniel Knezetic, the Popular Democratic Party of Canada candidate. Watters finished third, with slightly over 8% of the vote. [http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/riding/202/]
