Woodhouse Park

Woodhouse Park

Woodhouse Park is a locality in the south of the area of Wythenshawe, in the city of Manchester in North West England.

The area incorporates Wythenshawe town centre and borders onto Newall Green but is separated by the M56 motorway from which it is served by Junctions 4 (Wythenshawe) and 5 (Manchester Airport). It also borders on Moss Nook to the south, Peel Hall to the east, and Benchill to the north. Each of these are also localities within the Wythenshawe area, the others areas being Baguley, Northenden, Sharston and Northern Moor.

The majority of housing in Woodhouse Park is either council housing or former council housing. Following a democratic vote, the council properties are now under the control of local housing associations. Due to greater access to government funding, the housing associations have invested a great deal into the local area, improving the quality of maintenance of the housing stock. Local leisure facilities have also been improved as part of an urban regeneration programme.

A substantial amount of new housing (both private and social housing) is being built on grey-field and brown-field sites throughout the area in an attempt to encourage local investment.Fact|date=February 2007

Much public investment has taken place since 2003, including the (partial) rebuilding of Wythenshawe town centre. Further investment has been earmarked, including connection to the Manchester metrolink and greater expansion of the local town centre shopping facilities. This coincides with a local developmental plan that incorporates Manchester Airport.
