The Dubai Chamber Orchestra is an amateur orchestra founded in the summer of 2002 by Philip Cree, Linda Brentano and a group of players, all resident in the UAE. Comprising many nationalities and employed in a variety of professions, the musicians meet regularly to rehearse in their free time.
The orchestra aims to give three to four public performances a year, including works featuring different soloists from within the orchestra. The number of members has varied considerably since the first concerts in March 2003. There are currently around twenty-six players from Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, the Netherlands, India, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Syria, UK, UAE and the USA.
Over the past few seasons the orchestra has put on performances of rarely heard works from the Baroque and early classical periods, including symphonies by Carl Stamitz, CPE Bach, William Boyce and François-Joseph Gossec.
