The smalltail shark, "Carcharhinus porosus", is a requiem shark of the family Carcharhinidae, found in the western Atlantic Ocean between latitudes 32° N and 36° S. Its length is up to about 1.5 m.

The smalltail shark is found on the continental shelves, preferably over muddy bottoms, and especially in estuaries. It feeds mainly on small fishes including young hammerhead and sharpnose sharks, and shrimps. It is viviparous, with 2 to 7 young in a litter, the size at birth being between 31 and 40 cm. It is utilized fresh for human consumption and processed for fishmeal, and liver extracted for oil.
