Previously Donnybrook, DublinCamera setup Single Camera (since relocation to Baile na hAbhann) Running time Approx. 8 Minutes Broadcast Original channel RTÉ One Picture format PAL, 16:9 Audio format Stereo Chronology Related shows Nuacht TG4, RTÉ News External links Website Nuacht RTÉ is one of two Irish language television news services broadcast by RTÉ News and Current Affairs (Nuacht agus Cúrsaí Reatha RTÉ) in Ireland (the other being Nuacht TG4). The service was to begin broadcasting from the TG4 Studios at Baile na hAbhann in the Connemara Gaeltacht, County Galway [1] in late 2008 but this plan was deferred until July 2009 for budgeting reasons.[2]
Since the move to the west, Nuacht RTÉ broadcasts only one bulletin daily, at 17:45 on RTÉ One, lasting about 8 minutes. The bulletin is presented from a green screen studio in the TG4 building, which is also the Nuacht TG4 studio, however since the news is branded for RTÉ the background is similar to that of RTÉ News headlines and it avoids long shots of the Nuacht TG4 studio. It is followed by the RTÉ News with Signing, which is now voiced by the presenter who is preparing to read the Six One bulletin, which follows after the European weather forecast. Before the move, this would have been voiced by the Nuacht presenter.
A team of 42 staff are employed in the research and presentation of both Nuacht RTÉ and Nuacht TG4. Three new technical positions have been created as a result of investment by RTÉ.[3]
Nuacht RTÉ before relocation
Previously, Nuacht RTÉ had broadcast a summary of the main news headlines after the RTÉ News at One O'Clock. This bulletin had displayed subtitles in Irish, on the right half of the screen, taken directly from the autocue. It is no longer on air, but is still sometimes mistakenly advertised.
The former 17:20 programme consisted of the main news stories of the day, a brief weather forecast (from the weather department) and a teaser for that evening's Nuacht TG4. It was presented mainly by Siún Nic Gearailt on weekdays, and by Brid Og Ni Bhuachalla on weekends.
Both of the above programmes were presented from the RTÉ News studio at the RTÉ headquarters in Donnybrook, Dublin 4.
Irish language news bulletins on RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm and RTÉ Lyric FM are still presented from the RTÉ in Dublin, while those on RTÉ Raidio na Gaeltachta are presented from its headquarters in Casla, Conamara, Co. na Gaillimhe (County Galway).
