Alta's girls' soccer team was ranked second in the nation in 2006, and is coached by Lee Mitchell, who was named national coach of the year. The team won a second state championship in 2007.

# The school opened in 1978. The modern, two-level brick building is situated on a 37-acre site which enjoys an unobstructed view of both Oquirrh and Wasatch Mountain ranges. Two-thirds of the building has undergone extensive remodeling in the past two years.
# School is in session for 180 days per year on a traditional 9-month calendar. Students attend four eighty minute classes each day on an alternating block schedule beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 2:25 p.m.
# The teacher/pupil ratio used for hiring is 1 to 26.50 students. (Actual class sizes vary.)
# Alta offers a broad and varied curriculum which exceeds requirements of the Utah State Core Curriculum.
# Students must earn 27 credits and pass competency tests in basic skills in order to graduate.
# The Alta staff includes ninety classroom teachers, five counselors, a school psychologist, a vocational coordinator, a media coordinator, a principal and four assistant principals. All of these educators are state certificated and hold bachelor's, master's, or educational specialist degrees.
# The faculty is organized by departments where teachers coordinate and plan together. Instruction is delivered in self-contained classrooms. Some classes are team taught.
# All teachers and administrators are evaluated on a regular basis. Career ladder teachers are evaluated every three years, while new teachers are evaluated at least twice a year.
# Counselors are available to assist students who have questions or problems.
# Students are expected to maintain appropriate dress, attendance and discipline standards.
# Honors and advanced placement courses are available to gifted/superior students.

# Alta High has one of the nation's most effective advanced placement programs and the highest number of student participants in the state of Utah. Alta seniors earn well over 5,500 quarter hours of college credit each year through advanced placement classes.
# Alta has the District's largest concurrent enrollment program with Salt Lake Community College. Courses are taught on the Alta campus by Alta teachers for college credit.
# Alta High athletic teams have captured state championships in football and boys' track, gymnastics, basketball, girls' cross country, baseball, softball, boys' soccer, girls' soccer and boys' tennis.
# Alta has Jordan District's largest vocational enrollment and active, competitive VICA, FCCLA, FBLA, HOSA and DECA programs.
