Quick Bio
Miguel Guerra was born in Madrid to a Spanish Mother and an American father. He grew up in Alcalá de Henares, northeast of Madrid and home to Miguel de Cervantes. At the age of 8 his family moved to Canada. He currently resides in New York City with his wife and co-writer, Suzy Dias.
Early life
At an early age, cartoons captivated Miguel. Among his early favorites were Mazinger Z, Battle of the Planets, Maya the Bee, and Vicky the Viking. This opened him up to the imaginative world of European, Japanese and American comics/manga. He expressed his profound admiration by drawing on walls as a child, a skill he soon adapted to the more permanent medium of paper. His first art-related job as a teenager was unconventional to say the least. He apprenticed with an artist who created and etched illustrations onto granite tombstones. Since then, he’s created pin-ups, short stories, web art, and logos for various publishers and companies.a
Current projects
In 2006, Miguel and Suzy decided to launch Iberian Press. Their first endeavor was to self publish Samurai Elf, a 7 part graphic novel adventure/fantasy/humor series. Their decision to debut with a series may seem unorthodox, but as they say in New York, go big or go home. 2007 will see the publication of Samurai Elf: Gathering Storm (book 2), and Alric the Wild!, an ongoing graphic novel for all ages, where a boy raised by wolves and his best friend, the Monkey King, wreak havoc in the ancient world.
Translations
Miguel is also a Spanish translator for Heavy Metal Magazine and NBM Publishing. Starting in 2007, any copy of Heavy Metal will have a few stories translated by Miguel. Books to his credit include, Dark Labyrinth by Luis Royo, Fantastic Art by Luis Royo, and Daily Delirium by Miguelanxo Prado.
