Canterbury station is located at the southern end of the Canterbury Road rail overpass and next to Maling Road, with station access from both.
The station consists of three elevated platforms, two in an island format. Both sets of platforms - including the supports - are made completely out of concrete, which is unusual. The island platform (platforms 1 & 2) has a large fibro building, while platform 3 has a smaller fibro building. A large
Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platforms 1 & 2, and is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accepts notes and coins. A small Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 3.History
Canterbury station opened on
December 1 1882 . In the1930s a crossover was provided at the Melbourne end of the station, and asignal box provided to work the level crossing. [cite web

The works involved the use of temporary track to keep trains running, and raising the station 6 metres. Services on the third track from East Camberwell was extended though the station to Box Hill in1971 .cite book
