Auburn is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Hawthorn East on the Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein railway lines. Auburn Station is classed at a Host Station and is in Metcard Zone 1.
Facilities
Auburn station is located at the eastern end of the Auburn Road rail overpass, which also provides station access via the main underpass.
The station consists of three platforms, two in an island format. The island platform (platforms 1 & 2) has a large red brick building, while platform 3 has a semi-large red brick building. A large Metcard machine is located in the station's subway, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins.
History
Auburn station opened on April 3 1882 as "Auburn Road". It was later renamed to "Auburn" in the same year. The building is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. The current two story station build dates back to 1916, when the railway between Hawthorn and Camberwell was regraded. It features brick and stucco facades punctuated by arches. [cite web
