He was born in Grants Pass, Oregon and played in Eugene, Oregon punk band Snakepit from 1984-1989.[1] He replaced Lou Barlow in Dinosaur Jr in 1991[1] and played with the band live and on its recordings from 1991 to 1998. Concurrently he collaborated with Mark Lanegan on his first five solo albums. He played guitar on and co-produced Lanegan's first three solo efforts. He also was involved with the bands Queens of the Stone Age and Caustic Resin in the late 90s and early 2000s.
