Michael Richard Lewis (born 17 August 1977)[1] is the rhythm guitarist for the Welsh alternative rock band Lostprophets. He studied civil engineering for a year before turning to music. His mother was a shop assistant, and his father worked in management for a chemical company. Lewis attended Hawthorn High School, Pontypridd, and was in the same year as Lostprophets vocalist Ian Watkins, and his favourite subjects were science and history. Originally he was the bassist for the band but soon became a guitarist alongside Lee Gaze and Stuart Richardson replacing him on bass. He has so far recorded four albums with the band, with the newest, The Betrayed. In September 2006 he married his girlfriend, Amber Payne. Lewis now resides in Malibu, California. On 24 February 2009 he confirmed on his Facebook page that he and his wife were expecting their first child.
Lewis met Watkins at nursery and they were friends ever since.[citation needed] Before Lostprophets, they were bandmates in a band called Public Disturbance. Lewis' first concert (as a concertgoer) was Tesla at St. David's Hall.
Lewis is an avid Star Trek fan and owns a Star Trek uniform. He surfs Santa Monica beach almost every day when he is home. It was previously reported on this webpage that Lewis was once a vegan turned vegetarian, like bandmate Lee Gaze. In a recent interview with The Rock Radio Station in New Zealand, it was revealed that was not the case. Lewis stated to presenters 'Jase and Dunc' that he enjoys his steak cooked "medium rare" and gave the station permission to update this information. Lewis is a lifelong Everton fan.
