The Franco-Syrian War was a war from 1919 to 1921 between Syria and France. France conquered Syria; King Faisal, who was declared king of Great Syria, was exiled to United Kingdom. The British government, afraid for their position in the new mandate at Iraq agreed to declare Faisal new king of Iraq.

The Great Syria was divided in to two mandates: Syria, consisting of today Lebanon and Syria, under French control, and British mandate of Palestine, consisting of Palestine and Transjordania, under British control.
