As static inverters, mercury arc rectifiers were used. This plant, which permitted a maximum power exchange of 300
megawatt s between both power systems with a symmetricalvoltage of 125 kV, was replaced in1993 by the first static inverter plant of the world equipped with photo-thyristor s.* [http://www.transmission.bpa.gov/cigresc14/Compendium/SAKUMA.htm HVDC-back-to-back station Sakuma]
