- Great Brewster Island
Great Brewster Island is a one of the outer
island s in theBoston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area , situated some convert|9|mi|km offshore of downtown Boston. The island has a permanent size of 18acre s, plus anintertidal zone of a further 49 acres. Unlike the other outer islands, which are low-lying outcroppings of bedrock, Great Brewster is adrumlin which reaches a height of over 100 feet abovesea level . It has vegetation cover consisting of Apple Trees, Pear Trees,Sumac ,Beach Rose s, Grasses and Common Reeds, together with a largeGull colony. The birds are aggressive during nesting season and visitors are discouraged during that time.
