Aspropotamos (Greek: Ασπροπόταμος meaning the white river) is a former community in the Trikala peripheral unit, Thessaly, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kalampaka, of which it is a municipal unit.[1] Population 1,404 (2001 census), mainly Vlachs/Aromanians. The seat of the community was in Kallirroi (pop. 150). The community was named after the river Aspropotamos, a tributary of the Acheloos. Aspropotamos is located west-northwest of Trikala northeast of Arta and east of Ioannina, in the westernmost part of Trikala peripheral unit. The largest settlements in the municipal unit are Agía Paraskeví (pop. 296) and Kranéa (243).

History

Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.
