Anthousa, Trikala

Anthousa or Anthoussa (Greek: Ανθούσα), also with the i accented is a Greek village and serves the seat of the municipality of Tymfaios in the southwestern Trikala Prefecture located 65 km west of Kalambaka, west of city of Trikala, northwest of Larissa and south of Grevena. It was known as Lepenitsa or Lipinitsa (Λεπενίτσα) until the early 20th century. Anthousa had a population of 114 in 2001 for the village. Mesochora is built 1,100 m above sea level. It is located by the road linking with Kalambaka and the GR-30 (Arta - Trikala - Karditsa - Volos).

Information

The village is located on the edge of the Pindus mountains. The mountains dominate the west and the Acheloos river to the west along with Aspropotamos to the east. The mountains dominate the area and the low lying areas as well as the slopes are made up of forests that includes pines, cedars, firs, spruces, etc. The grasslands and barren land in which are mainly green are in the highermost areas and barren land at its mountaintops. Epirus along with the Ioannina Prefecture is to the west and the other side of the mountain. Farmlands are within the village and its valley areas and are mainly made up of pasture alond with other crops.

The village are inhabited during the winter months, most of its residents lives in Farsala and return to the village during the spring months. In the summer, its population reaches 500 people, most of them are from other parts of the country. Its main industry are agriculture, and honey production. It also has a rich forest. Anthoussa characterizes as a settlement. It also has a bridge of the Michou near Chalkiotiko (Χαλικιώτικο), the first stream of Acheloos.

History

Anthoussa then as Lepenitsa was not Greek until the liberation of much Thessaly as well as the southeastern Arta Prefecture in 1881.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, the population steadily declined as residents moved to larger towns and cities and the richest countries in the world, the population grew has grew since 1981 and rapidly between 1991 and 2001.

Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1970s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.

Anthoussa has a school, a lyceum (middle school), a gymnasium (secondary school) a few churches, banks, a post office and a square ("plateia").
