.

Information

The highway starts in downtown Volos with the junction of the GR-36 and GR-36A linking to the Pelion peninsula, it partly runs within the port of Volos and its harbour. For about 8 km it forms a joint with the GR-6. The highway forms a junction with the old GR-1 and the Volos Bypass which is unnumbered. The highway passes near the ancient cities of Iolcus, Demetrias and Pegasae and by Nea Agchialos. It forms an interchange with the GR-1/E75. The highway enters a mountains area of southwestern Magnesia and into the Larissa Prefecture.

It forms a joint with the GR-3 (Athens - Lamia - Farsala - Kozani - Niki) for 3 km and passes through Farsala. It enters the Karditsa Prefecutre and passes near Sofades and the city of Karditsa.

The highway enters the Trikala Prefecture and into the city of Trikala, it turns left and passes through the valley area and into the Pindus mountain ranges. The highway runs through Paliokastro, Pyli, Elati, Gardiki and Armatoliko. For about 50 km, the highway used to be treacherous and inaccessible with one lane. Many drivers that drove from Arta and Trikala used the GR-6 to the north. The highway passes the mountain range and a bridge over the Acheloos. The road used to be unsurfaced until the late-20th century when it become partially paved.

It enters Epirus and the Arta Prefecture and passes through Drosopigi and Peta as well as along the Arachthos River. It finally ends at Arta and its bypass with the GR-5 (Antirrio - Agrinio - Arta - Ioannina) in which it will become the Ionia Odos.

The highway was first paved in the mid-20th century.
