lough orlake andNational Nature Reserve five km north ofBardon Mill , and three km north of theB6318 road inNorthumberland , northernEngland .The lough is owned and managed as a
nature reserve by theNorthumberland Wildlife Trust and theNorthumberland National Park . It is a shallow lake fringed with water plants. Most of the reserve is open water. The lake's edge hasreedbed ,herb fen andblanket bog . It is used extensively bywildfowl andwader s that feed in the shallow waters andwetlands . The lough was used as areservoir by the Romans onHadrian's Wall .Early area history
Greenlee Lough lies slightly to the north of the ancient course of
Hadrian's Wall , a noted Roman monument in Britain. The story of this wall forms the earliest recorded history of the Greenlee Lough vicinity.
