Banded butterflyfish Scientific classification Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Actinopterygii Order: Perciformes Family: Chaetodontidae Genus: Chaetodon Species: C. striatus Binomial name Chaetodon striatus
Linnaeus, 1758The banded butterflyfish (Chaetodon striatus) is a butterflyfish found in the western Atlantic Ocean from Brazil to Bermuda.
The name is derived from the dark vertical bands on the fish's body. This, combined with a vertical, black bar through the eye, is designed to confuse predators.
