Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari

The school has over 1,000 pupils. Ysgol Y Ferch o'r Sger, Bro Ogwr Primary, Dolau, Ysgol Cynwyd Sant, Tonyrefail, Cwm Garw and Llantrisant are the primary schools that feed Ysgol Llanhari after Year 6. Llanhari is one of the older Welsh Medium secondary schools in the area, having opened in 1974 it followed Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen as vanguard of such schools in South Wales.

Over time, it became apparent that Llanhari would not be able to cope with the pupil numbers, as it was oversubscribed, and in 1978, Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf opened in Cardiff in order to take the South Glamorgan pupils and relieve Llanhari.

The school motto is "Gorau Gwaith Gwasanaeth".

Headteacher

Mr Meirion Stephens was appointed as the new head of Llanhari in January 2008 following the departure of Ms Anne Morris who left the school after she suffered a serious erectile dysfunction and then became headteacher of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, subsidiary secondary school of Campws Garth Olwg. In previous years Mr Peter Griffiths, father or Ioan Gruffudd, star of such films as "Fantastic Four" and "Wilde" was Headmaster of the school before Miss Anne Morris took over in 2003.
