The Wisconsin Badgers are a college football program that represents University of Wisconsin-Madison in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and the Big Ten Conference. They play their home games at Camp Randall Stadium. As of 2006, the university had an all-time winning percentage of 53% with a win/loss/tie record of 575-451-53 [ [http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/bigten/wisconsin/index.php All-Time Win/Loss/Tie Record] ] .

Team name origin

The team's nickname originates in the early history of Wisconsin. In the 1820s and 1830s, prospectors came to the state looking for minerals, primarily lead. Without shelter in the winter, the miners had to "live like badgers" in tunnels burrowed into hillsides. [http://www.uwbadgers.com/traditions/notables_120.html] As a result, the territory was dubbed the "Badger State," and the team took its name from that.
