On 2 May 1602 he was created 1st Duke of Kintyre and Lorne, 1st Marquess of Wigton, 1st Earl of Carrick, and 1st Baron of Annandale, all in the Peerage of Scotland. On his death, at the age of four months, all his titles, created only 25 days earlier, became extinct.
His older siblings included Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, Elizabeth of Bohemia, and Charles I.
