The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kingston in Jamaica (Latin: "Archidioecesis Regiopolitanus in Iamaica") is anarchdiocese of theLatin rite of theRoman Catholic Church in theCaribbean . The Archdiocese encompasses the larger portion of the island ofJamaica , and the capital of Kingston. The archdiocese is themetropolitan archdiocese for three suffragan dioceses: Belize City-Belmopan, Mandeville, and Montego Bay, as well as the Mission "Sui Iuris" of Cayman Islands. The archdiocese and its suffragan dioceses are members of theAntilles Episcopal Conference .Originally erected as the
Vicariate Apostolic of Jamaica in 1837, the Vicariate was elevated to the Diocese of Kingston encompassing all of Jamaica in 1956. After the two suffragans were split from the former diocese, the diocese was elevated to the Archdiocese of Kingston in Jamaica in September 1967.As of 2004, the diocese contains 32 parishes, 22 active diocesan priests, 25 religious priests, and 56,000 Catholics. It also has 116 Women Religious, 134 Religious Brothers, and 20 permanent deacons. It is currently led by Archbishop
