Rocky Harbour is a village located north of Woody Point. The Post Office was established there in 1894. It became a Local Government Community in April 1966. It had a population of 687 in 1956. Today the population is 1058. [http://www.rockyharbour.ca/about/index.htm]

The harbour was previously known as Small Bay or Little Harbour."Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador" (ISBN 0-9693422-1-7)] The harbour was frequented by the early French fisherman when it came under the French Shore fishery. The first year Rockey Harbour appered in the census figures was in 1874 and it had a population of 35.

It is a key tourist town located in central Gros Morne National Park, offering hiking, fishing, and birdwatching. It is surrounded by a World Heritage Site (Gros Morne National Park), which is home to Western Brook Pond Fjord.
