Chegem (Russian: Чеге́м) is a town and the administrative center of Chegemsky District of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, Russia, located 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) north of Nalchik, at the elevation of about 470 meters (1,540 ft). Population: 17,988 (2010 Census preliminary results);[1] 17,893 (2002 Census);[2] 13,225 (1989 Census).[3]

Originally called Chegem Pervy (Чеге́м Пе́рвый), it was granted urban-type settlement status in 1972. In 2000, it was granted town status and renamed Chegem.
