Vilyuysk ( _ru. Вилю́йск) is a town in the
Sakha Republic ,Russia , located some 600 km fromYakutsk on theVilyuy River (lefttributary of the Lena) at coord|63|45|19|N|121|37|29|E|display=inline,title. Population: 9,776 (2002 Census).Founded in 1634 as a Cossack winter settlement Tyukanskoye or Verkhnevilyuyskoye. In 1783, a town of Olensk was built in this place. The town was renamed Vilyuysk in 1821.
