Iowa Highway 8 is a state highway that runs from east to west in east central Iowa. Highway 8 is a short state highway in Iowa, at only 14 miles (23 kilometers) long.

Termini

The western terminus of Iowa Highway 8 is at Traer, Iowa at an intersection with U.S. Highway 63. The eastern terminus of Iowa 8 is at an intersection with U.S. Highway 218 northwest of Garrison.

Route description

Iowa Highway 8 begins in Traer at an intersection with U.S. Highway 63. It leaves Traer going southeast, then turns east. It intersects Iowa Highway 21 and the two highways run concurrently until Dysart, where Iowa 21 turns south. Iowa 8 continues east and ends at U.S. Highway 218 northwest of Garrison.

History

This is the second state highway to be designated Iowa Highway 8. The first Iowa Highway 8 existed from 1919 to 1926, and was an east-west route from Council Bluffs to Burlington. This highway was replaced by U.S. Highway 34 in 1926. The current Iowa Highway 8 route was designated in 1926.
