highway that runs from north to south through four counties in easternIowa . Iowa 38 is 100 miles long. The southern terminus of Iowa 38 is at the interchange ofIowa Highway 92 , and Business U.S. Highway 61 in downtown Muscatine, across theNorbert F. Beckey Bridge from Rock Island County,Illinois . The northern terminus of Iowa Highway 38 is at its interchange withIowa Highway 3 about 3 miles north of Greeley in northern Delaware County. In fact, Iowa 38 just misses entering Clayton County by one mile at its northern terminus with Iowa 3. Also, at its current southern terminus in Muscatine, Iowa 38 just misses entering the state ofIllinois .Route description
From its southern terminus in Muscatine, Iowa 38 traverses northeast through the city of Muscatine, overlapping Business 61 and East 2nd Street at first, then turning North and overlapping Business 61 and Park Avenue and passing its junction with
Iowa Highway 22 eastbound towards Davenport at the Park Avenue/Washington Street intersection. Iowa 38 is then concurrent with both Business 61 and Iowa 22 westbound. A couple of miles later, Iowa 38 reaches its former southern terminus, at the junction of theU.S. Highway 61 bypass around Muscatine, which is where Iowa 22 westbound splits off, and overlaps U.S. 61 southbound, and Business U.S. Highway 61 and Park Avenue both meet their northern terminus. After the junction at Muscatine's north end, Iowa 38 traverses north for about 9 miles and then meets with
U.S. Highway 6 just south of Wilton. U.S. 6 and Iowa 38 share a route for another five miles to the north, passing through Wilton and crossing the border from Muscatine County into Cedar County. Shortly thereafter, they meet with Iowa's only major east-west interstate,Interstate 80 . U.S. 6 splits off to the east with Interstate 80, and Iowa 38 overlaps Interstate 80 to the west for about four miles between Exit 271 and Exit 267, the Tipton-Moscow exit off Interstate 80.From Interstate 80, Iowa 38 then proceeds north for another 9 miles and travels through Tipton. In Tipton, it intersects with
Iowa Highway 130 which traverses to the east towards Davenport. After Tipton, Iowa 38 goes northbound for another 8 miles, and meets up withU.S. Highway 30 , actually overlapping U.S. 30 westbound into Stanwood. At the west end of Stanwood, Iowa 38 splits off from U.S. 30 and continues northbound, crossing the border from Cedar County into Jones County and then goes through a small town called Olin. After Olin, it goes north for another 5 miles and then Iowa 38 meets
Iowa Highway 64 . Iowa 38 overlaps Iowa 64 for 2 miles to the east and then Iowa 38 splits off to the north again, and passes through two small Jones County villages, Center Junction and Scotch Grove, before reaching Monticello. Just before arrival in the city of Monticello, Iowa 38 passes by its interchange withU.S. Highway 151 . After entering Monticello, Iowa 38 overlaps the former two-lane U.S. 151, now Business U.S. Highway 151 for a few blocks, and then splits off to go through downtown Monticello, and through the north end of town.About four miles after Monticello, Iowa 38 crosses the border from Jones County into Delaware County. Iowa 38 then proceeds northbound to go through three more small villages and towns, Sand Springs, Hopkinton, and Delhi. Four miles north of Delhi, Iowa 38 crosses U.S. Highway 20. Just north of the U.S. 20 interchange, Iowa 38 travels through the small town of Delaware. Just north of Delaware, Iowa 38 veers off to the right and overlaps Delaware County Highway D22 (old U.S. 20) for a few hundred feet to the east and then splits off to the north again, going through two more small Delaware County towns, first Oneida and then Greeley. After Greeley, Iowa 38 travels north for its final three miles and then ends at its northern terminus at its intersection with
