census , [GR|India] Urmar Tanda had a population of 22,115. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Urmar Tanda has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 71%. There are six primary schools in the locality, and numerous private schools, such as convent schools. The city has a government-run senior secondary school for boys, and a separate, also government-run senior secondary school for girls. The city also has a government-run college (G.K.S.M. Govt. College). There are also a number of private colleges.

There is one park named "Shimla Pahari" in the middle of the city. It is a common sight in this park to see people running yoga programs on a regular basis. The city has one police station, one government hospital and more than ten private hospitals, three post offices, six different banks, one telephone exchange, one railway station, one bus terminal and one municipal committee office. Tanda has more than 50 food shops and restaurants to serve local food and some fast foods. Tanda has one fresh vegetable market near the police station.

Tanda celebrates many annual events like Diwali, Deshehra, Holi, Birthdays of Guru's, and also local events such asSalana Ikotri Samelan (annual holy meeting) or Ram Leela (dramatic show of holy Ramain), Mela Baaba Zahira Peer (an annual festival at a holy place), Mela Baba Boota Bhagat (an annual holy fair) and Vaisakhi Mela (a harvesting feast held near the city). More than ten public Jagrans are held around the city in one calendar year, all run by public donation at public places.
