Rawatsar is a city, a municipality, and one of the eight tehsils in Hanumangarh district in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

Geography

Rawatsar is located at coord|29.28|N|74.38|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/24/Rawatsar.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Rawatsar] ] . It has an average elevation of 176 metres (577 feet).It has one cinema hall, one Community health center, well-maintained bus stand, Doordarshan relay center ,a historical fort which is also specific from architecture point of view and the world's only temple of "Khetrapal Baba".

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Rawatsar had a population of 28,383. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Rawatsar has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 44%. In Rawatsar, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Language

Bagri [Gusain, Lakhan (2000). Bagri Grammar. (Languages of the World/Materials 384). Munich: Lincom Europa. ISBN 389586398X] , a dialect of Rajasthani language, is spoken by majority of population. Besides, Punjabi, English,Hindi, and Urdu are also in use in this tehsil. The linguistic survery of Bagri was carried our by a team of scholars of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1993 under the supervision of professor Lakhan Gusain, (who himself is from Rawatsar tehsil and now professor at Johns Hopkins University, Washington, DC) and it was a major development for linguistic work on Bagri. A lot of research work (given in references) is done on Bagri in recent times.Now, Bagri has a reference grammar, dictionary, primers, and other reference material. The prominent poet on Bagri was Chander Singh "Birkali" who wrote "Loon" ,"Badli" and "Damfar" poems in the early-twentieth century.

Education

There are many schools--public and private--up to senior secondary grades. For higher education, two women's colleges and one boys ITI college and one one co-educational college also.
