Nilanga is a city and a municipal council in Latur District in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census[1], Nilanga had a population of 31,660. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nilanga has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 57%. In Nilanga, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age. Majority of population of this town is involved in Agriculture and traditional retail business. Muslim, Maratha and Lingayat communities have dominated this town by their influence in business & politics.

Hindi, Marathi and Kannada are widely spoken in the region. The city is predominantly Muslim, but cosmopolitan, and known for its communal harmony.

Nilanga is famous for the rich historical background, including places like Pirpasha Darga, Dadapir Dargha, and Nilkanteshwar Mandir.

Nilanga is also famous for the breakfast foods, Aloobath, Shira and Basundi.
