Mhaswad (Marathi: म्हसवड) is a town and a municipal council in the Maan taluka in the Satara district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

History

Historically, this place was ruled by Mane(माने), a Maratha Kshatriya 07 kuli clan. The Manes were Noblemen under Deccan Sultanates and therefore were considered as pillars of Maratha Empire. A festival called Jatra (Marathi: जत्रा) of lord Shri Siddhanath (Marathi: श्री सिद्धनाथ) is celebrated every year by the people here. In this festival, a chariot of Siddhanath is taken around the town by His devotees. Lord Shri Siddhanath Ratha Yatra is a great Festival . lakhs of peoples from all over Maharashtra comes in Mhaswad for this Yatra season Every year .

Local

The Siddhanath Temple, Raajwada, Siddhanath High School, Jain Mandir, Shivaji Chowk, Baajar Patangan, Mandai, ST Stand, Dhor Karkhana etc. are well known places in the locality and can be used as address references.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Mhaswad had a population of 20,494. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Mhaswad has an average literacy rate of 61%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 52%. In Mhaswad, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
