Lohaghat is a town and a nagar panchayat in Champawat district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. This is a hill station with many tourist spots around.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Lohaghat had a population of 5828. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Lohaghat has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 75%. In Lohaghat, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Geography

Lohaghat is located at coord|29.42|N|80.10|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/39/Lohaghat.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Lohaghat] ] It has an average elevation of 1,754 metres (5,755 feet).Lohaghat is a beautiful place covered by pine and deodar trees.

Tourism

Nearly notable tourist spots are: Shyamla Taal, Devidhura, RithaSahib, Abbot Mount, Varansur fort, Mayawati Ashram (Advaita ashram), Galchaura, Suin(Pawa), Forti viilage around here. It is famous for bagwal fight carnival which takes place at Devidhura (Maa Baarahi temple) on auspicious day of Raksha-bandhan. Near by Ritha-sahib is famous for sikh gurudwara and sweet Rithas that are unique in world and Pancheshwar is famous for river-rafting and adventurous sports. It is a place of Lord Shiva. P. Barron had said,"why go to Kashmir, if there is heaven in the world, so its in Lohaghat". This place has a historic importance as well. Here is a fort of Banasur, who was killed by Lord krishna. 20 KM far from Lohaghatthere is place called PATI. Pati is a very beautiful place.

Apart from being a favourite destination for tourists , this place is famous for it's celebration of Holi and Janamashtmi.The khadi bazaar of the town is an added attraction.the scenic beauty of galchaura incomparable to even few of the European destination.
