near-se = MurrindindiThe Shire of Strathbogie is a Local Government Area inVictoria, Australia . It is located in the north-eastern part of the State and has an area of 3,293 square kilometres. The Shire includes the towns of Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, Strathbogie and Violet Town.In
2006 it had a population of 9295, of which almost a third reside in the central town of Euroa, where is the local government offices are located. It was formed in1994 from the merger of parts of theShire of Euroa ,Shire of Goulburn ,Shire of Violet Town ,Shire of McIvor andRural City of Seymour .The Shire is about 150 km from
Melbourne and bordered to the east by the picturesqueStrathbogie Ranges and to the west by the Nagambie Lakes district. It is also well-known for itssheep production (home of the original Merinos) horse studs (earning the title "The Horse Capital of Victoria"), wineries (Mitchelton,Tahbilk , Plunkett's),olive s andalpaca s.Tourism is a growing industry in the area, with many B&Bs, hotels and restaurants.
