The Town today

Violet Town has connections with Australian rock music - firstly, during the 1980s a song by The Church was named for the town, and more recently the town has been known for being the home of Jesse and Ella Hooper, members of rock band Killing Heidi.

It is located on the Honeysuckle Creek and has many streets named after flowers. On the second Saturday of each month it hosts a vibrant community market.

The town has an Australian Rules football team competing in the Kyabram & District Football League.

Transport

The railway station is serviced by VLine services between Melbourne and Albury. The town is served by passenger trains on the broad gauge track, while trains on the standard gauge track pass through non-stop.

Accident

The town became well-known in 1969 as the site of the Southern Aurora train crash.
