The Deputy Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, in the United States government, is the chief operating officer of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Deputy Secretary (article needs revising). ^[1] The Deputy Secretary is the first in line for the office of Secretary if the Secretary dies, resigns, or is otherwise unable to perform his duties.^[2] On 2 February 2009, President Barack Obama announced that he will nominate Executive of King County, Washington, Ron Sims to succeed Roy Bernardi.^[3]. Sims was confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2009^[4] and sworn in on May 8th^[5].

The Deputy Secretary is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.^[6] The previous Deputy Secretary, Roy Bernardi, had served from June 2004. Other former Deputy Secretaries include Frank Keating (1990-1993), Alphonso Jackson (2001-2004), Saul N. Ramirez, Jr.,^[7] Terrence R. Duvernay,^[8] and Alfred A. DelliBovi,^[9][10] who was the first Deputy Secretary after the title had been changed from Under Secretary in 1990. The Under Secretary position was created with the establishment of the Department in 1966.^[11]
