It is part of the Middlesex Board of Education. The school is surrounded by Mountain View Park and all its athletic complexes, including Memorial Field.
As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 682 students and 55 classroom teachers (on a FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.40.[1]
The school was the 183rd-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 322 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2010 cover story on the state's "Top Public High Schools", after being ranked 169th in 2008 out of 316 schools.[2] The school was ranked 148th in the magazine's September 2006 issue, which surveyed 316 schools across the state.[3]
Contents
Athletics
The Middlesex High School Blue Jays compete in the Greater Middlesex Conference, which includes public and private high schools located in the greater Middlesex County area. The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Boys' soccer and wrestling teams operate on a cooperative basis with Dunellen High School, with Middlesex serving as the host school.[4]
Athletic championships
Middlesex is competitive in a wide range of sports.
Sectional, State, and Conference Titles:
- The football team won the state championship in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association's Central Jersey Group 2 (CJG2) in 1971, 1972, and 1975, then in its Central Jersey Group 1 (CJG1) in 1981, 1982, and 1984.
- The baseball team won the CJG1 championship in 1982, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2003, and 2007. Won the New Jersey State Group I Championship in 1990 & 2007, a 13-3 win over Metuchen High School [5]
- The softball team won the CJG1 championship in 2000 and 2001 and 2002 and 2003 and 2004. Won the New Jersey State Group I Championship in 2004. Enrollment made them a CJG2 team in 2005 but they were able to capture the GMC title.[6] It won the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament (GMCT) championship in 2005.
- The boys tennis team won the CJG1 state championship in 2003 and 2007, with a 3-2 win vs. Florence Township Memorial High School.[7]
- The boys basketball team won the CJG1 state championship in 1994.
- The boys cross country team won the Mountain Valley Conference championship in 1982, 1983, 1989, 1991, and 1992.
