jct|state=QC|A|30 in Sorel-TracyRoute 133 is a north/south highway on the south shore of the
Saint Lawrence River in the province ofQuebec . Its northern terminus is in Sorel-Tracy, at the junction of Route 132, and the southern terminus is in Saint-Armand at theUnited States border withVermont , close to Highgate Springs, where it continues southward asInterstate 89 .Route 133 follows the east bank of the
Richelieu River for most of its length, up until a little past Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The stretch between the US border and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, where Autoroute 35 begins, is relatively busy, as it provides the main link betweenBoston andMontreal .Currently, most of Route 133 is a three-lane highway: one lane runs in each direction, and the middle lane is used for passing. Every couple of kilometers, the direction in which passing is legal is changed. This confuses some motorists and leads to many accidents. There are plans, though not immediate, to extend Autoroute 35 to the US border by-passing Route 133.
