Monroe Bank and Trust (MBT, nasdaq|MBTF) is a community financial institution headquartered in Monroe, Michigan, with branch locations throughout Southeast Michigan. Owned by MBT Financial Corporation (a holding company), MBT manages $1.5 billion in bank assetts with an additional $1 billion in trust assets.

History

Founded as Dansard State Bank by Benjamin Dansard and Louis Lafountain in 1859, the company changed names after one year to Dansard & Son Bank and moved to its current location at the corner of Front and Washington Street.

The company merged with the Monroe State Savings Bank in 1940. The Monroe name was kept and the company continued operations from Dansard's location.

The company changed its name in 1968 to Monroe Bank and Trust.

Expansion

In recent times, MB&T has expanded north into the Downriver part of Wayne County with branches known as "MB&T Downriver". With the recent failure of Northville, Michigan based Main Street Bank, MB&T has assumed control over Main Street's assets, placing two new branches in Northville.
