Punjab Medical College

Punjab Medical College is located in Faisalabad, Pakistan on a convert|158|acre|km2|sing=on campus. It was established in 1973 - 1974. The College provides separate male and female housing for both students and staff physicians. Teaching hospitals affiliated with the College are Allied Hospital and DHQ Hospital. Teaching hospitals affiliated with the College are Allied Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Hospital. The current principal of PMC is Dr Asghar Chaudhry. The first group of graduates with M.B.B.S degrees finished in 1978.With a grant of Rs. 460mn from the government, the construction of new buildings, laboratories and the teaching hospital was completed in 1982. In the past Punjab Medical College became the Center of student politics in Faisalabad. In recent years political activism among students has diminished greatly. PMC is recognized with the General Medical Council (GMC)and is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED).

Controversies

Punjab Medical College has been in the news recently for expelling students belonging to Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. In 1974, a student organization ran a violent campaign against the Ahmadi students resulting in their expulsion. In June 2008, BBC reported that all Ahmadi students were expelled from the medical college due to pressure and threats from the Islami Jamiat Talaba students.
