Career
Commonly known just as Odajō, and also known for his unusual hairstyle and eclectic style of dressing, he is the epitome of Cool Japan.[citation needed] He has achieved considerable success as an actor, having been awarded Best New Actor by the Japanese Academy for his role in Azumi, and Best Supporting Actor in Blood and Bones.
He has starred in such films as the Katsuhiro Otomo-directed live-action movie adaptation of the manga and anime series, Mushishi, where he was featured as the main character, Ginko, as well as other well-known films such as Shinobi: Heart Under Blade.
He is also well known by much of the tokusatsu fandom in his starring role as Godai Yūsuke from Kamen Rider Kuuga. Odagiri has expressed on multiple occasions his difficulty playing the role however.[citation needed]
Odagiri is also very famous in Brazil due to his roles of Bijomaru Mogami in Azumi and Godai Yuusuke in Kamen Rider Kuuga.[citation needed]
Personal life
He applied to the Fresno State University, to study film directing, but enrolled at the Theater and Arts Department by mistake.[1]
He often says that Fresno is his second homeland.[2]
On December 27, 2007, at a news conference in Tokyo, Odagiri announced his engagement to actress Yuu Kashii, who is exactly 11 years his junior.[3] They were subsequently married on February 16, 2008, which was also a birthday for both of them. In February 2011, their first child, a son, was born.
