HMS "Endeavour" was the name of nine ships of the
Royal Navy . Three ships of theRoyal New Zealand Navy have been called HMNZS "Endeavour".Royal Navy
*The first "Endeavour" was a 36-gun ship purchased in 1652 and sold in 1656.
*The second "Endeavour" was a 4-gun bomb vessel purchased in 1694 and sold in 1696.
*The third "Endeavour" was afire ship purchased in 1694 and sold in 1696.
*The fourth "Endeavour" was ahoy (boat) purchased in 1694 and sold in 1704.
*The fifth "Endeavour" was a cutter purchased in 1763 and sold in 1771.
*The sixth "Endeavour" was a 14-gun sloop, purchased in 1763 and wrecked in 1780 in ahurricane offJamaica .
*The seventh and most famous "Endeavour" was HM Bark "Endeavour", originally "Earl of Pembroke", a 6-gun bark purchased in 1768. She was known as "Endeavour Bark" to distinguish her from her contemporary listed above. She was commanded by LieutenantJames Cook in his voyage of exploration in thePacific , 1768–1771. She was sold in 1775.
