Capital Al Diwaniyah Area - Total 8,153 km2 (3,147.9 sq mi) Population (2007) - Total 990,483 (3% of total) Al-Qādisiyyah Governorate (Arabic: القادسية Al Qādisiyyah) (or Qadisiyyah Province) is one of the provinces of Iraq. It is in the center-south of the country. Its capital is Al Diwaniyah. Before 1976, it was part of the ad-Diwāniyyah Province, along with al-Muthannā Governorate and Najaf Governorate. The province is named after the historical city of Al-Qādisiyyah; the site of the Battle of al-Qādisiyyah, where in 636 CE the Islamic Rashidun forces defeated the forces of the Sassanid Empire.
