next_route=18BNew York State Route 18A was one of six suffixed routes to spur off of
New York State Route 18 in western New York. The route currently makes up the Gowanda–Collins segment ofNew York State Route 39 and the Collins–Hamburg segment ofNew York State Route 75 . Route 18A was convert|18.41|mi|km|lk=on long, stretching from NY 18 andU.S. Route 62 near Collins to the same two highways in Hamburg. There was an intersection in Langford with the eastern terminus ofNew York State Route 249 , where the intersecting highway became a county route. The route in its entirety was not maintained byNew York State Department of Transportation . Instead, it was maintained by the New York Department of Public Works, which had maintained all state highways at the time. A suffixed spur of Route 18, the highway was eliminated and renumbered when the parent highway was truncated.Route description
Route 18A began at an intersection with
New York State Route 18 andU.S. Route 62 north of the town of Gowanda. The highway progressed eastward, heading through downtown Collins, where it passed several buildings in a more populated district. The highway continued eastward until turning off the eastward track for a northward one.cite map|title=Collins, New York quadrangle|publisher=United States Geological Survey |year=1976|cartography=United States Geological Survey|accessdate=2008-08-30|url=http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gisdata/quads/drg24/usgspreview/index.cfm?code=o42078d8] Route 18A continued to the north, passing through the hamlet of Whites Corners, which is a small municipality outside of Langford. Paralleling several gas wells, the highway continued northward out of Whites Corners and into Marshfield, another hamlet. North of Marshfield, the highway intersected with a county highway, Genesee Road, and entered the town of North Collins.cite map|title=Langford, New York quadrangle|publisher=United States Geological Survey |year=1960|cartography=United States Geological Survey|accessdate=2008-08-30|url=http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gisdata/quads/drg24/usgspreview/index.cfm?code=o42078e7]Route 18A continued into the hamlet of Langford, where it intersected with the eastern terminus of
New York State Route 249 , a trans-Erie County highway. The route quickly left North Collins for the town of Eden, parallelling Langford Road. Route 18A continued northward, beginning a parallel with Eighteenmile Creek. The highway went into the Eden Valley area, passing some buildings including Saint Pauls Church. Route 18A finally came to an end a few miles later, ending at an intersection with NY 18 and US 62 in Hamburg. Eighteenmile Creek continues northward into Hamburg.cite map|title=Hamburg, New York quadrangle|publisher=United States Geological Survey |year=1965|cartography=United States Geological Survey|accessdate=2008-08-30|url=http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/gisdata/quads/drg24/usgspreview/index.cfm?code=o42078f7]History
