John Barnes (broadcaster)

John Barnes (broadcaster)

John Barnes (born around 1960) is a sports journalist for BBC Scotland, regularly reporting for TV's "Sportscene" and BBC Radio Scotland's "Sportsound".

Barnes was famously attacked by Jim McLean, then the chairman of Dundee United, during a post-match interview [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/dundee_utd/972659.stm "Police investigate McLean incident"] , "BBC Sport", October 16 2000] at Tannadice in 2000. Although not directly broadcast on "Sportscene", noises coming from behind the camera were heard during the live Saturday afternoon edition of the programme. McLean later admitted he had struck Barnes and apologised, but had to resign as chairman.
