Kuching, Sarawak, MalaysiaGenres Pop, R&B, Hip hop Years active 1996–present Labels DN & AD Entertainment Sdn Bhd Dayang Nurfaizah binti Awang Dowty (born July 20, 1981 in Kuching, Sarawak) is a Malaysian singer. Her debut self-titled album was released in May 1999 and it was recorded in the pop and R&B genres. The album's lead single, Hakikat Cinta introduced her to the local music industry.
Her biggest task up then, to mark her fifth year in the Malaysian music industry, was to set up her own recording company, DN & AD Entertainment Sdn Bhd. Under its banner, in 31 October 2004 she released her fourth studio album, Dayang Sayang Kamu, which was received with rave reviews from the Malaysian public as well as neighbouring countries.
In 2006, she participated in One in a Million, a singing competition hosted by Malaysian local television station 8TV. She ended up as one of the four finalists in the competition but was voted out by the Malaysian public on September 15, 2006, as the competition was determined by a 50% text message voting system.

One in a Million
The recording industry was shocked over Dayang's participation in One in a Million. Dayang's participation received many mixed reviews from various parties including the media suggesting that Dayang should give the opportunity to new talents because she already has an established position in the local music industry. During the competition, Dayang showed her off her singing capabilities with the R&B genre, infusing the music with her own style and no one captured the essence of her style better than one of the One in a Million judges, Paul Moss where he called Dayang the "Booty Shaking Funky Hot Diva".
Unfortunately, Dayang was voted out during the Top Four show when she got the highest vote out amongst the top four participants. Dayang's elimination was the most shocking elimination in the history of Malaysia's reality television and received coverage by all local newspapers and was a hot topic of debate discussed heavily online.
